Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are excited to share an important new requirement to help guide our students’ educational and career paths! Beginning this year, all 8th-grade students must complete a Career Development Plan to be eligible for promotion to 9th grade. Additionally, students will update this plan in the 10th grade as part of their preparation for promotion to 11th grade. This initiative aims to support students in setting thoughtful goals, exploring potential career pathways, and aligning their academic efforts with their future aspirations.

The Career Development Plan includes four essential components:

  1. Self-Assessment – Helping students understand their strengths, interests, and values.

  2. Exploration and Identification of Pathways – Allowing students to explore career options and identify paths aligned with their interests.

  3. Alignment of Academic Courses and Extracurricular Activities – Guiding students in selecting relevant courses and activities to support their career goals.

  4. Creation of a Career Portfolio – Building a portfolio that documents students' journey and progress, which can be refined over time.

To facilitate this process, we will use MajorClarity, a digital platform that enables students to explore meaningful careers and develop a structured Career Development Plan. In the coming weeks, our staff will begin working with 8th graders to ensure every student completes their plan. We strongly encourage you to log in with your child to view their progress in MajorClarity.

If you would like a copy of your student’s Career Development Plan, or if you have any questions, please contact the school at 252-793-3031 and speak with the school counselor or career development coordinator for more information.
