A meeting for senior students took place earlier this week. Every senior received a comprehensive schedule detailing all upcoming events and the expectations for the rest of the academic year. The students were instructed to give the document to their parents or guardians, obtain their signatures, and return the signature page.

Spotlight on Washington County Alumni Tenisha Hines:
Tenisha Hines, a proud graduate of Plymouth High School in the class of 2013, has charted an impressive path since her high school days. After graduating, she pursued higher education at North Carolina Central University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a Minor in Business and a Concentration in Homeland Security. Not stopping there, she continued her academic journey, earning both a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctorate.
Currently, Tenisha is making significant strides in the field of Civil Rights and Compliance. Her dedication to this important area underscores her commitment to justice and equity.
During her time in high school, Tenisha completed a CTE pathway, which undoubtedly laid the foundation for her future success. However, her journey wasn't without challenges. Yet, she believes firmly that no obstacle is insurmountable. She encourages current Washington County Schools students to embrace resilience, kindness, and a hunger for knowledge.

Today, we spotlight Ms. Shirley Gee Barnes, a dedicated teacher who spent nearly twenty years educating middle school students in Business, Computers, and Marketing. Inspired by Dr. May Hope Wilkins, who encouraged her to pursue teaching alongside her career in cosmetology, Ms. Barnes found a new passion that fueled her desire to educate and empower. She continues to inspire and motivate others, emphasizing the importance of financial prudence by advising everyone she meets to save for a rainy day. Black History Month: Celebrating WCS Retired Educators
Julius Walker, Jr. and Katie Johnson Walker, a married couple and alumni of Elizabeth City State University, are celebrated as legendary retired educators in Washington County. With careers spanning over four decades—Mr. Walker for 45 years and Mrs. Walker for 38.5 years—they have made significant contributions to the Washington County School System. Mr. Walker, with degrees from Elizabeth City State University, North Carolina Central University, and East Carolina University, held various roles, including the first African American Principal of Plymouth High School and the first African American Superintendent of Schools in Washington County. He is known for his fair, firm, and consistent leadership. Mrs. Walker, also a graduate of Elizabeth City State University and East Carolina University, made history as the first African American teacher at the integrated Plymouth High School, teaching business and office education courses. She was named Plymouth High School Teacher of the Year in 2001. Both Mr. and Mrs. Walker have left an indelible mark on the community through their dedication to education and continue to contribute to the enrichment of Washington County's educational landscape and community.

The FAMILY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT District Team will be hosting the Harlem Magic Masters with a FREE Community event on Monday, February 26, 2024 from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm at WCMS in the gym. The Harlem Magic Masters will utilize the medium of basketball to engage scholars with a variety of topics from anti-bullying to chronic absenteeism. This program focuses on essential parenting skills and child development, aiming to provide our students with a solid foundation in understanding and nurturing young children's growth.

Congratulations to WCHS Ke'Vontae Lucas on his Signing Day. He has announced that he will be taking his football skills, abilities and talents to Barton College. He shared that he made that decision after his visit there. He stated it felt like home and he felt comfortable. Ke'Vontae thanked his parents, grandmother, coach and teammates for all they have done for him on this journey.
