📢 Exciting News for Washington County Schools! 📢
We are thrilled to announce that four of our talented high school scholars from Washington County High School and Washington County Early College High School have been selected to participate in the prestigious STEM Mavericks program at East Carolina University (ECU) this summer! 🎉
This week-long overnight program is a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage with peers from surrounding districts in an immersive STEM experience, sponsored by a grant from the Department of Defense (DoD). The DoD aims to create a model similar to the JROTC, but with a focus on cybersecurity. 🔒🖥️

Our final alumni spotlight shines on the talented Keymiya Norman from the PHS Class of 2019.
After graduating, Keymiya embarked on an academic journey at NC A&T State University, where she pursued visual arts. She faced challenges that led to her pivoting to the workforce, taking on various jobs. Yet, none could quench her thirst for artistic expression.
With talents spanning drawing, painting, hairstyling, makeup, and the ability to bring her imagination to life, Keymiya faced the challenge many artists in small towns do—making a name for themselves. In a bold move, she has decided to enlist in the army, aiming to channel her efforts in a new direction while continuing to pursue her love for art globally. As a small arms/artillery repairer, she is set to begin basic training in South Carolina on May 13th.
Her message to us all: facing challenges head-on is crucial. Running from difficulties leads nowhere, and stagnation is far scarier than embracing the unknown. Inspired by her favorite art teacher, Ms. Wilkins, Keymiya's guiding principle is the importance of effort and trying, regardless of the outcome.
This story is a testament to the courage, resilience, and undying passion for art that defines Keymiya Norman.
Keymiya Norman our WCS Alumni Spotlight!
This is a full circle moment as Frank Bryan, an alumnus of our school, returns to inspire our class president and other seniors to explore opportunities at ECSU. His journey back to motivate and encourage represents a meaningful connection between past and future generations.
